About Shon
Am I showing up with Love?
For 20+ years, I was a practicing full-time professional artist. Although I was passionate about art-making, I was far more interested in the creative process than I was in the actual outcome of a final art product.
I loved working with children through gallery programs and was excited to guide youth in the many facets of art-making, especially when we could learn about our world and ourselves through exploration, and connect and form close relationships through artistic process. This journey always captivated my heart.
As the years passed, I had a yearning to use the arts in a deeper, more meaningful way.
Eight years ago, I enrolled in my first Expressive Art training level at Prairie Institute of Expressive Art Therapy...and I never looked back.
Shortly after, I was offered the opportunity to create therapeutic art and music programming in LTC... and it changed the course of my life.
'Shon is an exceptional expressive arts educator/facilitator. Her light shines as leader, mentor, collaborator, and magical artist.
She is highly gifted and deeply soulful in her journey with others.
It is enough that she crafts beautiful, artful, invitations for others,
but what touches me even more profoundly, is the way she is with others. She weaves the art, the lives, and the stories of those she journeys with by offering the attentive gift of heartfelt listening, and seeing the essence of others through her loving presence.
This is a rare gift.
Thank you Shon, for your enchantment with art, story and love
and your courage to bring these gifts to the world in your extraordinary way.'

I am writing to share my experience as a participant in a therapeutic art workshop led by Ms. Shon Profit. This workshop was a transformative experience that offered numerous therapeutic benefits, and I believe it holds great potential for a wide range of groups and settings.
From the outset, the workshop provided a space where I could relax and explore my creativity without judgment or pressure. Through various art activities, I was able to express emotions and thoughts that I hadn't even realized were within me. The process was not only enjoyable but also deeply healing. As I engaged with different mediums— whether painting, drawing, or music—I found myself discovering new aspects of my personality and uncovering insights about my life that I hadn't been aware of before.
One of the most valuable aspects of the workshop was the sense of community and team bonding that developed among the participants. We came from different backgrounds and experiences, but the creative activities allowed us to connect on a deeper level. The group dynamic fostered trust and openness, making it easy to share our creations and the emotions behind them. This sense of camaraderie was incredibly uplifting and created a supportive environment where everyone felt valued and understood.
Moreover, the workshop was fun. The joy of creating, the laughter shared, and the satisfaction of completing a piece of art brought a sense of lightness and happiness that stayed with me long after the sessions ended. This element of fun, combined with the therapeutic benefits, made the experience not only beneficial but also something I look back fondly on.
In conclusion, my experience in Shon Profit’s therapeutic art workshop was nothing short of remarkable. It provided a unique blend of relaxation, self-discovery, healing, and team bonding that I believe could benefit a wide range of people in different settings. I wholeheartedly recommend this workshop and encourage others to consider how it might bring positive change to their lives and communities.

'The outcomes of the program showed improvement in cognitive functioning, increased confidence, reduced feelings of anxiety and depression, and overall increased quality of life.
Shon always went above and beyond the expectations of the program. Her passion for art and helping others is the reason the program was so successful.
Her passion for raising awareness of the benefits of art, especially in Long Term Care, is essential for reducing the stigma of older adults as well as people living with disabilities.
She has proven that anyone is capable with the right support.'
Camille Lesiuk, CTRS, Cypress Health Region
'The arts program for long term care (LTC) residents that Ms. Profit established has provided a positive opportunity for seniors living in care, whereby they have a creative outlet to express themselves, create and experience joy.
It is a social medium and a cultural one.
At a time where seniors were isolated and deprived so much opportunity for connection, it maintained stimulation and socialization for seniors living in the LTC home.
This is so important for the well- being of seniors.'
Kevin Wasko, MD, CCFP(EM)
'Shon was an incredible resource for the facility and the program. She mentored the activity workers and encouraged them to facilitate the program on days she was not scheduled.
It is very difficult to put into words the positive impact the art program has had on the residents; there simply are not words to capture the outcomes.
The facility was fortunate and very blessed by her presence and skill. Because of her work and the value of the program, we now have a dedicated art room that residents can utilize anytime they want.'
